The 2021 NFL Draft has come and gone, so now it is time to see what the Philadelphia Eagles were able to come up with. Fans of the franchise were more worried than ever going into this draft as the prospect of a total rebuild looms large. So without further a due let’s get in to it.
First Round, Pick 10
The Eagles first round pick came at number 10 via a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. They selected DeVonta Smith wide receiver out of Alabama. The Heisman Trophy winner’s selection came with great jubilation from birds loyal fan base. He hopes to be the premier target for quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Second Round, Pick 37
Seeing @Landon_2012 split squat today reminded me of videos like this that prove he is not normal. Not only is he extremely athletic, he attacks every day and every challenge like no one I’ve seen. pic.twitter.com/0DjnhR9ogj— Matt Rhea, PhD (@MattRheaPhD) February 23, 2021
In the second round Philly took Landon Dickerson the athletic center also out of Alabama. Dickerson is considered a steal and the best interior lineman in the draft. He would have went sooner if not for a terrible knee injury last season. However, judging by his workout routine he’s doing just fine
Third Round, Pick 73
The Eagles draft selection in third round was Milton Williams a defensive tackle that came out of Louisiana Tech. The pick was made in an attempt to bolster a defensive line that struggled to create pressure over long stretches last year. The pick was especially important as it is the only one of the round due to the aforementioned trade with Dallas.
Fourth Round, Pick 123
Philly finally filled a whole in their secondary in the fourth round , when they selected Zech McPhearson. McPhearson is a cornerback that comes from Texas Tech. He lead his team in interceptions last year with 4 and looks to be good addition to a defensive back field that had issues taking the ball away
Fifth Round, Pick 150
The fifth round would be the last time the Eagles selected a player for the offensive side of the ball, With the pick they chose Kenneth Gainwell running back out of Memphis. Gainwell is comes as runner who is very impressive in the passing game. It is said he has great route running for a player of coming out of the backfield.
Sixth Round, Pick 189, 191, 224
The Eagles would have multiple picks in the sixth round. The first of which would be defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu out of USC. They stayed on the D line for their next pick as well. Defensive end Tarron Jackson would be the pick at 191 out of Costal Carolina. The final pick was linebacker/safety hybrid JaCoby Stevens out of LSU. Stevens is thought to be one of the more versatile defensive players in the draft.
Seventh Round, Pick 234
Philly’s final pick was linebacker Patrick Johnson out of Tulane. Johnson holds the school record for sacks and is prone to get to the quarterback. The move for another linebacker signals a shift in thinking for a franchise who traditionally don’t put much though into the position.
