Union Take Down D.C. United In Club Friendly

The Philadelphia Union kicked off 2021 with an exhibition match up with D.C. United. Philly is poised to defend their Supporter’s Shield championship and cement themselves as a power Major League Soccer

First Half

The Union got to work early as Anthony Fontana was able to get one pass the goalkeeper in the 3′ to put Philly up 1-0. Philadelphia did a great job early of penetrating the United zone and getting up a decent shot. They would look to continue that pressure for the rest of the match. Fontana would score again before the end of the half, in the 38′ thanks to some beautiful passing from Quinn Sullivan and Jack McGlynn. And the Union would head in to the tunnel at the break up 2-0.

Second Half

The second half was nothing short of a master class in goaltending from the “Brick Wall” himself Andre Blake. Blake was excellent as he repeatedly stop any attempt united made at getting back in the game. Blake who suffered a hand injury last season showed no ill effects in the Union’s preseason showdown. His tough play helped the team cruise to an easy victory.
