Tonight was the second half of a back to back, after a hard-fought physical win against the Boston Celtics and Joel Embiid popped up on the 1:30 injury report with back tightness. In past years it would be very rare that Joel actually played this game, but he did. And he dropped a casual 33 and 14. Ben Simmons followed him up with a 20-9-7 stat line and the 76ers beat the Pistons 114-110.
One of the more impressive parts of tonight’s game was Ben Simmons going 10-12 from the free-throw line including making two big ones with under thirty seconds left when the Pistons intentionally fouled him while the shot clock was still running. Joel Embiid followed up with two more FT’s after a Pistons lay up to seal the game.
Post-game Tobias Harris was asked both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons’ play and had nothing but good things to say. Saying that he does whatever the team needs him to do and has been “putting in the work and playing with great energy”. When asked about Joel Tobias called him a competitor and that he is out there just having fun and dominating.
The Sixers are 12-5 and sit atop the Eastern Conference standings. They will play the Detroit Pistons again on Monday at 7 pm, followed by a home game versus the reigning NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
