The Philadelphia Eagles came in to their match up with the Seattle Seahawks with one thing on their minds. And that was win. Nothing else is acceptable. Tonight’s game may be the biggest one of the season. Another loss and they may have to stop thinking about the playoffs and start thinking about the draft.
Philly’s first drive ended in a three and out even though they were spotted a five yard penalty to start the game. Seattle put together a solid drive aided by several stupid Philadelphia penalties, but were denied on 4th and goal inside the 3. The home team would get another 4th down stop on their next defensive possession courtesy of Derek Barnett. Another terrific stop my defense would lead to a 0-0 tie at the end of the quarter.
The Eagles defense finally gives, to start the second quarter. A long pass by Russell Wilson was quickly converted into a go ahead touchdown and Seattle would go up 7-0. After the Eagles went three and out yet again the Seahawks benefited from a litany of one side calls and scored again to take a 14-0 lead. Philly would put together a solid drive to end the half, capped by a touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Dallas Goedert. They would close the gap and only trail 14-6 at halftime.
The two teams traded field goals in the third quarter as the Eagles continued to move the ball for positive yards. Philadelphia would get theirs first after utilizing a good mix of run and pass. Seattle would used the quick passing game to answer with three points of their own. The quarter would end with Philly on the move with Wentz finally in a rhythm, and the Eagles getting their 5th third down conversion. After three quarter of play it’s 17-9 Seattle.
Philadelphia started the fourth quarter with a promising drive fizzling out on a failed fourth down play. The defense would hold Seattle to another field goal, and trail 20-9 with a little over eleven minutes to play in the game. The Eagles would drive into the red zone but Wentz would throw yet another ugly interception, his 15th of the season, on a miscommunication with Goedert. They’d get the ball back eventually after allowing another field goal, and add a last minute touchdown and 2pt conversion but it was too little too late. And Seattle would hold on
Final Score: Seattle 23 Philadelphia 17
