In statement today from GM Elton Brand the 76ers made it official that they were moving on from head coach Brett Brown.
After the initial team statement Brett released a statement of his own.
The team will now look to head in a new directions. Both Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania have suggested that names like Tyronne Lue and Jay Wright are on the 76ers list for a replacement. Woj also said that Brand will continue to oversee basketball operations but said there will be more changes coming.
The next moves could prove to be instrumental for the franchise, as Joel Embiid is set to become a free agent in 2023. The team needs to balance win now expectations and allowing a new coach to grow with his new players. A long with front office changes and poor roster construction, this offseason will be pivotal for the future of the team.
Brown may not be missed by many fans, and he may have been over his head coaching here, but there is no doubt that he didn’t give his all for the team, the fans, and the city. Hopefully, the next coach can bring the same dedication and maybe just that little something extra to get this team over the hump.
